The course provides specialist in-depth training and hands on experience of the growing range of new analytical techniques used in the biotechnology sector and also the computational skills used to maximise the information gained from these methods; this course is suitable for new graduates from a chemical or life sciences background wishing to kick-start their career in the field of analytical biotechnology; students benefit from an industry project placement, encouraging them to make contact with potential employers before even completing their degree; part-time students normally carry out their project at their place of work allowing them to apply their learning and make an immediate impact within their own environment; the course is made up of 10 taught modules, a group project and individual research project.
Include: Biomolecules and analytical biotechnology; research design and methodology; sample preparation and separation technology; introduction to sensors and biosensors; genomic and post-genomic analytical biotechnology; analytical biotechnology and healthcare; biomedicine as a business venture; instrumentation and software; immunological techniques; bioinformatics.
