Course Description
The programme offers a range of modular study options designed to meet the needs and interests of a varied student group from a variety of professional and vocational backgrounds. The underpinning philosophy is that all drug problems, including alcohol, involve an interaction between the drug, the individual and the environment. Therefore the course provides a broad perspective on alcohol and other drugs including inputs related to pharmacology, psychology and social policy. The modules are: Understanding Alcohol & Drug Use & Consequences; Social Policy; Harm Reduction; Theories of Behaviour Change; Intervention Methods; Mental Health; Research Methods; Optional Practice Placement; Service Evaluation; Critical Review/Research Proposal; Data Handling; and Research Implementation.
Course Fees
For 2006/7 entry course fees were £3,160 per annum full time; £1,580 per annum part-time for EU/home students. Course fees are subject to change and students are advised to check the current details with the course provider before enrolling on this course.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should normally hold a degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification plus experience of working with alcohol and/or drug-related problems. Candidates lacking these academic qualifications may be considered for admission providing they have relevant professional or voluntary experience and exhibit a high degree of commitment to the addiction field. Such applicants will be required to complete written work prior to their acceptance unless other evidence of academic ability is available.
