Year 1: Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of design as a problem solving process; practical work promotes design thinking and sensitivity and students are given a broad overview of the scope and nature of the industry, together with a theoretical framework in which to contextualise their work. Year 2: Students develop creative and strategic thinking and learn how to use different techniques to generate ideas and concepts; a �live� brief is set by industry to provide an opportunity for students to apply their studies in a professional setting. Year 3: this year is regarded as a professional year in which students fully integrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired; students are encouraged to work with other students as a creative team; emphasis is placed on research, critical thinking and the production of a creative portfolio that demonstrates an engagement with the new and traditional media available for communicating the advertising message.
