The course has been developed in partnership with the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC); the course equips students with the knowledge and expertise essential for the effective development and exploitation of materials, metals and manufacturing issues.
Modules include: advanced metallic materials; steelmaking and continuous casting; fatigue and fracture mechanics; the other contains materials and manufacturing modules focusing on topics such as material modelling and computer simulation in manufacturing; to complete the MSc students must study: advanced learning and study skills; plus 3 modules from the engineering metals list; 4 other modules; a dissertation; Engineering metals modules: advanced-metallic materials; structure and properties of alloys; steelmaking and continuous casting; steel products and applications; heat treatment: principles and practise; fatigue and fracture mechanics; durability and engineering materials; high strength aerospace metallic materials; Materials and manufacturing modules: reliability engineering; material modelling; competitive materials technology; advanced-manufacturing technology; computer simulation in manufacturing; Continuous improvement options: sustainability energy and environmental management; global strategic marketing; reinforced-concrete structure.
