This course is suitable for practicing engineers or recent graduates; it deepens their knowledge and experience in design engineering and improves their technical and problem-solving skills; they develop their understanding of current best practice in the theory and application of leading edge technologies, processes and systems; the course is suitable for those who want to improve their career potential as a technical specialist or manager in product development and manufacturing companies; it can also help towards a career teaching engineering; students learn specialist techniques such as design for manufacture and assembly and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and can use the latest computer software including high-end finite element analysis, computational flow dynamics (CFD) and CADCAM systems.
Students take 2 management modules, 5 core technical modules and 1 optional module; the optional modules include: advanced vibration and acoustics; CFD; equipment engineering and design; the international product development module involves working in multidisciplinary teams to develop a new product within a global market; this develops much sought-after advanced technical and business skills; the project develops students' capacities in areas of personal interest or career focus.
