The heavy vehicle technician is responsible for servicing and maintaining vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes permissible maximum weight. Typical activities are identified as follows: carry out routine vehicle maintenance - conducting scheduled examinations, adjustments, replacements of or to components and systems as a part of periodic heavy vehicle servicing; diagnose complex system faults - carrying out the preparation, implementation and analysis of a series of mechanical, electrical and electronic diagnostic tests on a variety of heavy vehicle systems; rectify complex system faults - dismantling, assessing, repairing, adjusting and replacing components and units together with reassembly and testing; inspect vehicles - inspecting new, damaged, used, enhanced, repaired and refinished vehicles, interrogating and interpreting technical information, preparing and completing accurate records relating to tests and inspections which have been carried out on heavy vehicles.
