Mandatory units include:
• Promoting communication
• Promoting equality and inclusion in children and young people’s settings
• Engaging in personal development
• Principles for implementing duty of care
• Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
• The role of the health and social care worker
• Person centred approaches in health and social care
• Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care
• Promote good practice in handling information
• Dementia and learning disability pathways
• Optional units will be chosen to make the qualification up to 58 credits
Applicants will need to be at least 16 years of age and employed in an appropriate practical setting for at least 30 hours per week or more and have a contract of employment. Learners will need to show competence in both theory and practice. You will normally have at least one of the following: A pass on the Level 2 BTEC/CACHE Diplomas in Health and Social Care/Childcare or four GCSEs at grade C or above. Alternatively, for adult learners you will undertake an initial assessment of your literacy and numeracy to assess your suitability for the course. Applicants for apprenticeships must not have a university degree.
