The Additional Diploma in Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector (ADTE(E)LLS) is a level 5 teaching qualification for teachers working within the post-16 sector. It is the subject specific qualification required of ESOL practitioners teaching in post-compulsory settings. On successful completion, candidates will have satisfied one of the requirements needed to apply for qualified teacher status (QTLS). If they have not already done so, candidates will need to gain a full generic qualification such as the PGCE, Certificate in Education or DTLLS. It is an in-service teacher training course and applicants are expected to be in-post at the point of entry.
Applicants must be qualified in CELTA or an equivalent qualification. Level 3 standards of personal language and communication skills at are essential. Every Applicant will be assessed for meeting academic demands at level 5. It is also vital to secure 69 hours of teaching at two distinct levels (e.g. entry level 2 and level 1), before enrolling.
