This course gives students a critical insight into familiar, though often poorly understood, concepts such as profit and loss, cost, and value for money; depending on the options chosen, students may be able to gain partial exemption from the examinations of professional bodies such as ICAEW, CIMA and ACCA; this will depend on the options chosen in the 2nd and final years.
Year 1: Basic accounting; quantitative methods and information technology; professional skills; elementary costing and finance; economics for accounting and finance; general principles of English law; business organisation and management. Year 2: Business law; auditing and taxation; company accounting and accounting theory; information systems for accounting; corporate financial management; introduction to marketing; management accounting; personnel management. Year 3: Core modules: extended essay; advanced management accounting; advanced finance; advanced financial accounting; advanced accounting theory and policy; optional modules: computer applications in accounting; international accounting; public sector accounting; supply chain management; international corporate governance; strategic management; human resource management; international business; e-commerce; entrepreneurship and small business studies.
