This course is for people who wish to work, or are working, in financial accounting and want to develop their career to a recognised, professional level; the course gives a comprehensive understanding of the skills a professional accountant needs; students take 14 papers over two levels; at fundamental level (F) students study introductions to financial and management accounting; at professional level (P), students study advance accounting, taxation, auditing and other core business areas; students may be able to gain exemption from some or all of the fundamental level papers depending on their previous qualifications or experience; students cannot gain exemption from professional level papers; if the student starts with no exemptions, the course typically takes four years to complete; during this time students normally gain employment in a professional position, either in industry or an accounting practice; the courses are run by experience staff, many of whom have strong links with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and substantial experience of working within accountancy and associated professions.
