Course Description
The accountant's function is not confined to basic record keeping but incorporates management information relevant to the financial appraisal of business activities and the corporate reporting of those activities to external parties. An accountant's skills must include a thorough understanding of conceptual and practical accounting, both management and financial. They must also have the ability to communicate, deal with human resources effectively and appreciate the legal and economic environment of organisations. Course Structure - Year 1: (All Compulsory Modules) Financial Accounting, Management and Cost Accounting, Introduction to Economics for Accountants, Quantitative Analysis, Legal Environment of Business and Employment, Accounting Applications (skills and IT). Year 2: Corporate Reporting, Managerial Accounting and Finance, Accounting Information Systems, Business Management. There are also two option modules in the fields of: Management Science Applications, Computing, Social Accounting, Economics, Law, Marketing and Management. There is also an opportunity to study for a year abroad, at the English-speaking Haarlem University Business School, in the Netherlands. Year 3: Sandwich Business Placement Year (optional). Year 3: Full-time/Year 4 Sandwich: Advanced Corporate Reporting Or Evaluating Corporate Reports, Advanced Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, Issues in Accounting and Finance (case studies and skills) and Optional modules include: Law and Insolvency, Auditing, Taxatio,n Investment and Portfolio Management, Business Ethics, Strategic Management and Choice of Project. By following the Premier Programme, it is possible to gain exemptions from vaioius professional Accountancy examinations.

Assessment method
Our assessment approach varies depending on the knowledge and skills fostered during the course of study. Opportunities to display personal development skills, such as effective communications, team-working and independent learning are assessed by various approaches, including case studies, group and individual presentations and practical computer applications. Examinations will also be a feature of assessment, particularly where subjects may attract exemption from the examinations of professional bodies.
