This course is split into 2 theory modules plus coursework. Module 1, Foundation Chemistry, includes atomic structure, bonding, periodicity and introduction to organic chemistry. Module 2, Chemistry in Action, includes energetics, kinetics, equilibria and analytical techniques. Coursework consists of assessed practical investigations, which are carried out throughout the year.
You should already have grade B or above in GCSE Maths and Double Science, higher tier, plus 3 other GCSEs in academic subjects, including English, all at grade C or above. You will have to sit a diagnostic assessment to see whether this level of study is suitable for you. Mature students may not need the same academic qualifications but will still have to take the diagnostic assessment.
