This course will enable you to improve skills in listening and communicating, develop self-awareness and gain a Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills - ABC (QCF). This QCF course has been collaboratively developed with Skills for Health and ABC Awards has 210 guided learning hours with 40 credits at level 3. The aims of the course are: � to enable you to achieve competence in the knowledge and use of counselling skills � to increase your understanding of the counselling process and the skills involved � to practise and improve those skills � to develop your sensitivity and awareness about the process of change and growth � to understand at an introductory level some major approaches to counselling and to the philosophical and practical assumptions about the nature of people � to identify your personal development and learning � to relate the learning to your own roles and work settings There are five units: Developing counselling skills (T/502/8235) 12 Credits Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills (L/502/8239) 10 Credits Counselling skills and diversity (L/502/8225) 6 Credits Working ethically with counselling skills (K/502/8233) 6 Credits Counselling skills and personal development (L/502/8242) 6 Credits The learning on this course will take place in a variety of ways including input from tutors and peers, group discussions, practice sessions in small groups, videos/dvds and tutorials. Assessment is continuous and includes tutor, peer and self-assessment. You will be expected to monitor and record your own learning and practice, develop criteria for self-assessment, and show evidence of applying your knowledge and skills. Satisfactory completion of this course will be rewarded by a nationally recognised certificate. The amount of study/practise between sessions depends on each student but as a very rough guide this will be a minimum of 3 hours a week. This is a suitable entry qualification for the Eastleigh College Diploma in Counselling (DipHE) which is a 2 year course and in turn can lead to the third year Top Up Degree BA (Hons) Counselling. Please note this Level 3 course is not a qualification to practice as a paid Counsellor, but will indicate a certain level of knowledge and expertise in Counselling skills.
