This course is for those who are interested in progressing to higher education to study philosophy or any other social science subject. Philosophy is a fascinating subject which investigates many of the great thinkers, Aristotle, Plato, Hume and Sartre, pursuing the history of philosophy from antiquity, the enlightenment through to existentialism and contemporary thought. Specific modules include epistemology (rationalism, empiricism, conceptual schemes); problems concerning an external world; freedom and determinism; personal identity through space and time; philosophy of mind; metaphysics, leading to contemporary debates regarding AI theory, selfhood, what constitutes self, language, concepts and ideology. Students will also receive the opportunity to study in detail at least one primary philosophical text.
Students must have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including Mathematics, and English Language at grade B or above.
