This course is for students who have studied GCSE Geography who wish to further their knowledge and understanding of the subject, possibly in preparation for study at a higher level. It covers the following topics: rivers, floods and management (compulsory), cold environments, coastal environments and hot desert environments and their margins, global population change (compulsory), food supply issues, energy issues and health issues, plate tectonics and associated hazards, weather and climate and associated hazards, challenges facing ecosystems, world cities - evolution or revolution, development and globalisation, contemporary conflicts and challenges. They may progress to higher education to study subjects such as geography, geology and environmental studies. Alternatively they may enter a diverse range of employment from environmental, market and operational research to mapping, surveying and tourism.
Students must have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths, English Language and Geography (higher tier).
