The Extended Project is designed for those studying A Levels in any subject who wish to develop project management and autonomous learning skills. It is gaining increasing recognition as a valuable qualification by both employers and universities. You choose your own topic and the format of the final product. This may be an event, a work of art or web site, accompanied by a written report or academic dissertation of 5,000 words. You will receive 30 hours of teaching which covers such topics as researching, referencing, evaluating sources, project planning, time management and problem-solving. The remainder of the time is spent working independently. You will be assigned a supervisor with whom you are required to meet on a regular basis to discuss the progress of your project. As part of the assessment, you are required to record the development of your project and the meetings with your supervisor in a project log. At the end of your project, you will present your final product to an audience and share your experience of its development. Successful completion of the project is worth up to 70 (A* grade) UCAS points.
