This course is for those who wish to pursue a career in the ever expanding and increasingly popular industry of musical theatre. It is a unique course that combines a mixture of practical, vocational and academic study in the three art forms of dance, drama and singing. There will be a wide range of opportunities for you to show your work in a diverse array of live performances and chances to attend professional performances in both regional and national venues. You will be taught by industry experienced tutors alongside visiting professionals working in the West End.
What you will study
You will develop skills in the three disciplines of singing, dancing and acting and learn to combine them to produce dynamic and expressive performance suitable for this genre. These skills will be underpinned by the principles of the creative process and various performance styles. You will develop the ability to work as part of an ensemble, exchanging ideas and developing work for performance.
In Year 2 the emphasis will shift to creative endeavour in which you will actively contribute to performance projects utilising skills and techniques gained throughout the course. You will be able to experiment more as an individual following your own ideas and areas of interest within Musical Theatre.
Your Course Structure
Classroom: 30%; Practical: 70%
How you will learn
This is a practical, work-related course with academic and theoretical exploration threaded throughout. You will develop through completing assignments that are based on realistic industrial activities within the specialism of musical theatre. You will have the opportunity to show your work in public performances.
Five GCSEs at grade A* - C including English, or a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts or other Level 2 qualification at Merit grade. Successful interview and group workshop audition. You will also need Level 2 numeracy. If you do not have the relevant level of qualification, we can assess your current level of numeracy.
