About this course

The 20th century saw the creation of many exciting ceramic designs and the rise of the named designer , along with consumer demand for new styles after the austerity of World War II. We shall look at how pottery featured in design exhibitions, including the Festival of Britain, and at the careers of some of Britain s best-known ceramic designers, as well as introducing some lesser known personalities. We shall also examine the rise of studio pottery as both useful day-to-day ware and art form. We shall look at relevant ceramic pieces and you are welcome to bring along your own examples for discussion. A museum or factory visit will be included in the course.
