Course Description
This programme offers a broad spectrum of options. The courses are taught by staff who are directly involved in research and publication in the 19th century. It is structured around a spine of core teaching which aims to develop research skills, provided in conjunction with the Faculty of Arts and including specific subject-related methods and techniques. As with all our History of Art programmes, there is a strong emphasis on object-based research in addition to critical and theoretical analysis. As well as offering expertise in the history of painting, the department is distinctive in providing opportunity for historical study of a wide range of media, from stained glass, printmaking, sculpture, architecture and photography, to the printed book, furniture and the domestic interior. The whole degree may be structured to reflect your individual interests, culminating in the dissertation, which is written on a subject selected by you in consultation with a tutor. Other courses offered by the faculty are available as part of the degree and include advanced IT courses taught by the Humanities Advanced Technology & Information Institute.
Course Fees
For EU/Home students 2007 entry fees were £3,600 (full-time) and £1,800 (part-time) per annum. Fees are subject to change.
