Our guide to hairdresser training courses

Hairdressing courses cover a range of topics relating to the practical application and understanding of hairdressing in a professional environment, including colouring, health & safety and client consultation. Typically hairdressing courses will be an area of focused study; occasionally however, it will form part of a hairdressing and beauty course. The majority of courses prepare students for professional employment in a hairdressing salon and, therefore, you will need to have the ability to work independently and creatively.

Shocking ethics

Where: Arpita Karania Training Academy

What: Arpita Karania Hair and Make Up Academy - 5 intensive course

by Sharon - March 2015

I was taught for a week by this provider & was promised work by her afterwards. I was shocked to discover I would have to pay her a high commision for this. I was told it was included in the fee. Many students finish the course with no chance of extra work from her. It's a exceptionally competitive business so she relies on you becoming one of her "members/special MUAs". She gives you pipedreams. The course is undertaken in her own home, not a specialised college. The BABTAC course is not recognised or verified anywhere else either. It is purely a ASIAN makeup course. I have atteneded many courses in beauty & got diplomas but this terrible. I will say on a positive note, she gave good instruction & tips but she is a self taught MUA. The photography studio you go to was a horrible messy room over a garage in Small Heath, Birmingham. Not at all professional. This woman is also posting pictures of ex students work including mine & acknowledging them as her own. This is wrong. Very wrong. She doesn't give credit to the original MUA at all in the photos! Very very unfair! I am making this known all over the asian makeup community. Very bad business ethics. At the time when I said about speaking of these problems, she blocked me from facebook & became threatening. I posted my work on facebook to show my friends and family because I was proud & I was promptly told to remove them (as quick as I put them up) as they didn't belong to me! I was really upset. Never ever again & she has taught me a big lesson. You don't get any come back from a course like this.
