Many of us have considered university courses. Whether it's an undergraduate degree in a subject we're passionate about or a postgraduate qualification that we need to follow a certain career. University courses can be interesting, fun, and life changing.
Many people will tell you they've met friends for life as a result of one of the many university courses on offer in the UK. However, university courses are not just something us mere mortals take to boost our CV.
Some of Britain’s best-loved celebrities have degrees too. We’re not talking honorary degrees, awarded without actually taking any university courses, no, these celebs have been in it for the long run.
They’ve had the complete university package – from mad nights out at the student union, meeting lots of new people and dancing until the small hours; to even madder nights in at the library, desperately cramming for an exam at nine with a can of energy drink for company.
They’ve been there, just like you. We've picked some celebrity graduates and found out which university courses they took and where...here is our top ten -
1.
Rowan Atkinson. He may be best known for playing the blundering Mr Bean, but this is a real example of how art doesn’t always imitate life. Rowan actually has an
electrical engineering degree from
Oxford University and came up with the character of Mr Bean there.
2.
Boris Johnson. With a passion for education and a desire to bring Latin lessons back to schools, it’s unsurprising that Boris is a university graduate. The current mayor of London also went to Oxford, having studied
classics for his undergraduate course.
3.
Jonathan Ross. This controversial presenter took a Modern
European history course with the University of London before he became famous. He has also worked with a French cinema channel, so his degree probably came in handy then.
4.
Hugh Grant. The king of the romantic comedies learnt all about the romantics on his
English literature university course. Though he claims to have just fallen into acting, skills developed while studying could only have helped. He is also another celebrity Oxford University graduate.
5.
Josie Long. This up and coming comedienne also read
English at Oxford before taking to the stage. She was involved in running comedy clubs while studying and continued it as a profession after she graduated.
6.
Ben Fogle. Latin American studies was the university course of choice for this adventurous television presenter. Being a keen explorer, he chose to take part of his course abroad, and studied at both the
University of Portsmouth and the University of Costa Rica in South America.
7.
Jo Whiley. This popular radio DJ did a
degree in applied languages at Brighton Polytechnic before taking to the national airwaves. She was also working at BBC Radio Sussex at the time so that might have had more impact on her career choice than her degree did.
8.
Katy Brand. Yet another famous Oxford graduate, this funny lady left with a
degree in theology. Now with her own show, Katy was invited to join the drinking society while at university.
9.
Rosie Fortescue. The stylish student from Made in Chelsea honed her creativity on her
History of Art degree at
Goldsmiths, University of London. Having recently graduated, she’s now working on her own style blog, combining her love of art with her interest in fashion.
10.
Jessica Wright. Not just a pretty face, this star from The Only Way Is Essex, has a
Business and Marketing degree. She’s putting her knowledge to good use too with her new underwear line.
