Lisa is widely recognized as an expert in the field of stepfamilies and is often asked for advice on stepfamily related issues by National press, magazines and TV.

Q. What's the first thing you teach your students?
That their experience at Regents is what they make of it and to grasp it with both hands. The course will be challenging - but enjoyable!
Q. Please explain in detail what students will learn during each part of your course?
The BSC (Hons) Psychology degree has been designed to give students a thorough grounding in psychology and the opportunity to tailor the course to their specific interests. It is a three year programme (optional 4th year available for foundation students), divided into 6 semesters of 12 weeks. The course covers all core psychology modules including research methods, social, cognitive and developmental psychology, as well as innovative applied psychologies such as counselling, psychotherapy, sport and performance.
Q. Why do you love your subject?
Psychology is such a diverse field that opens up so many career opportunities. Even for those who don’t want to pursue a career in Psychology, it teaches students important life skills that they can use in whatever career they eventually choose.
Q. What qualifications route did you take to realise your career?
I took a somewhat complicated path – originally starting out as a marketing professional. I eventually retrained and gained a second degree in Psychology. I fully intended to go back into industry but found myself drawn into research. I went on to complete my PhD - with much blood sweat and tears, and now enjoy inspiring others to share in my passion for the subject.
Q. What skills do your students have by the end of the course?
They will have a thorough knowledge of Psychology and will also have extensive transferable skills in areas such as research and academic writing.
Q. What kinds of careers can your students hope to embark on after graduation?
Typically about 20% of students who study psychology go on to further study to train within a specific psychological discipline such as clinical, health, forensic or occupational psychology. However psychology degrees are highly regarded by employers (HE careers services, Nov, 2010) and students are well placed for careers in a range of fields including marketing/PR, management, HR, education or the public sector.
Q. What's the best way to go about getting an entry-level job in your industry after graduation?
I would recommend that students try and supplement their learning with relevant work experience. This helps them firstly understand if they enjoy working in the field and shows prospective employers that they are committed and eager!
Q. Where can students find great sources of information to learn more about your subject?
I would recommend as a first stop to look at the British Psychological Society (BPS) website. It has got lots of info on training and careers in psychology.
Q. How competitive is the job market for your graduates and what will set them apart?
The job market is difficult for all students at the moment; however studying a subject that applies well to industry is a great start!
