Adam gives us an insight into his catering course and tells us about his future catering plans…

 ‘I used to work in a pub kitchen, so that’s where I got a taste for cooking. I really developed a love of food there, so I came to Lewisham College during an open day to find out about catering courses. I was really impressed with the facilities on offer so I enrolled. I’m now just about to finish the NVQ Level 3 Professional Cookery course. My tutor, Aidan Fullerton, is my biggest inspiration. He’s helped me develop both my cooking and my business skills, and has helped me make some invaluable contacts in the industry. He has such a passion for cooking and it’s highly contagious. Lewisham College has also given me the chance to enter a number of catering competitions. I was part of a team of three who made it through to the regional semi-finals in the Brakes student challenge and in 2009 we put together a similar team and made it through to the semi-final heats of the prestigious Nestlé Toque d’Or competition.
I plan on going to university to study at Sheffield Hallam University soon, as I think you need to learn about the business and practical side of catering too.’
