Student Story: Norwegian Norwegian classes

We hear from Marilyn and John Taylor, who took Norwegian classes and really enjoyed their language-learning experience.

Name: Marilyn and John Taylor
Institution: Morley College

Marilyn and John started studying at Morley in 2006, after their eldest son married a Norwegian and started a family near Oslo. Keen to be able to communicate with their new family, they began looking for a course that could teach them the basics of the Norwegian language. After struggling to find anywhere that offered Scandinavian languages, they came across an advert for Morley in the  Anglo Norse Society newsletter.

Marilyn and John have now been studying Norwegian for five years, and although it has proved a challenge, they have found their calsses rewarding. Marilyn explains: ‘The class has a friendly and supportive atmosphere. There is a mixed age range and contact with younger people can be very valuable as you get older. We’ve particularly enjoyed engaging with the native Norwegian speakers who teach us, and have not only learned the language but gained a lot of information about Norwegian society and customs.’
