Kally tells us how much she is enjoying her nursing degree, and how her future career in nursing is looking bright…
Name: Kally Wilde
Course: BSc Nursing
Institution: University of Essex
Kally Wilde is in the second year of her nursing degree at the University of Essex and has found that it’s making a real difference, both to her home life and her future career plans.
‘I loved the fact that the University of Essex offered the exact course I had decided I wanted to do and it was also handily close to home so that I see a lot of my family even though the course is quite full-on.
Academically, I am really enjoying the course. I have found the lectures to be both stimulating and enjoyable, and socially I have made lots of friends. It’s nice that some of us are in the same situation, where we want to get a professional qualification to be able to provide better for our children.
I have found the reflection module the most thought-provoking we have done. It has also been the most useful so far for my everyday life, which is great as it emphasises that university is not just about education but also about developing myself as a person, mother, wife, friend and daughter.
We have just started the biopsychosocial module, which I have found particularly interesting and am looking forward to continuing with it over the rest of the year. The tutors and lecturers have been extremely useful in providing guidance and support when you need it.
My first placement as part of the University of Essex course was a community mental health placement and it was this placement that made me realise this is the kind of nurse I want to be once I’m qualified. It was great to get that kind of experience. So far the year has been really beneficial for me in a variety of ways. I feel that the modules I am actually studying everyday will benefit me in the future when I become a registered nurse.
I’m really enjoying the course so far and it’s a real pleasure to be able to study something that I know will absolutely make a positive impact on my future life and career.’
