As well as fashion, hairstylists can find placements in TV, advertising, theatre and film. Some hairstylists prefer to set up their own salons after gaining a substantial amount of experience. Typically, you would need to work for least five years in order to establish yourself in the competitive market as a professional hairstylist.

In addition to qualifications, your networking abilities will determine how far you go in this career. Senior stylists can expect to earn in excess of £25,000.
