In a world of TVs, tablets and mobiles, kids can end up spending too much time glued to a screen. If you can tear them away though, there are loads of great courses on offer for children who want to learn.
Taking a course is an excellent way to stimulate your children and keep their brains busy while they’re not at school. Some courses for children even allow adults to join in, turning it into an event that the whole family can enjoy.
We’ve brought together our top children’s courses and picked out the ten that look the most fun:
1. The London Language Centre offers a course in English for children and teenagers who want to improve their knowledge of the language and their communication skills. This course will appeal to beginners as well as more advanced English speakers.
2. They’ve grown up around computers and laptops so the kids know their stuff when it comes to IT. Therefore Solihull College have come up with a Family IT course where the tables are turned and your children can actually teach you.
3. Calling all Dads! Tower Hamlets Lifelong Learning and Idea Store in London invite you to join your kids and get arty. With drawing and photography courses on offer, you can get stuck into learning new creative techniques with your children.
4. If you've got little girls that love to meddle in Mum's makeup case, ship them off to The Hair and Makeup Bar for makeup lessons aimed specifically at kids. From lip gloss, to blusher, girls can learn how to 'tone it down' but still have fun with makeup.
5. For all those children that need wearing out before bedtime, a kids fitness class will get their pulses pumping and ensure a quiet night for mum and dad. Gay Payne from CPDT will show your little ones different martial arts and techniques for personal safety while encouraging them to get fit too.
6. Kids and kitchens seem like a dangerous combination if you want to keep things clean, tidy and not burnt to a crisp. However, The Sushi Queen is happy to come to your home and teach your children how to make sushi. She promises lots of fun and the creation of some sushi rolls and dessert at the end.
7. If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise... Forest Garden Shovelstrode are running green wood working classes for children and parents. Bring along a packed lunch and at the end of the day go home with items you've made.
8. Surf’s up! Grab your board, slide into your wetsuit and take a surfing course with the kids in Cornwall. Newquay Surfing School offers classes for everyone age 8 and up, so bring the whole family along and learn to ride the waves.
9. Turn their cartoon addiction into a way of channelling creativity on the family cartoons course at Merton Adult Education in London. Kids will be taught the basics of cartoon drawing and be encouraged to create their own characters.
10. Kids grow so fast! Avoid forking out on new clothes and enrol them on Emma Morrison's Sewing and Fashion course where they will learn how to make their own clothes and use a sewing machine.
