Student Story: Shiatsu Advanced and Probationary Years in Shiatsu

Ria tells us about the benefits the Japanese healing art Shiatsu has brought to her life…

Name: Ria Knowles
Course: Advanced and Probationary Years in Shiatsu
Institution: British School of Shiatsu, London

‘I experienced shiatsu as a receiver back in 2001 and I was so impressed by the power of the treatments that I decided I wanted to learn about shiatsu myself. I chose the British School of Shiatsu because it is very close to my home and came highly recommended. I also called the School before enrolling and they told me about their residentials, which are four or five days away in beautiful countryside doing intensive study, receiving and giving treatments, eating healthy food, being in wonderful landscapes, doing meditations etc. The School also offers training in specialist areas in its third year programme. I studied shiatsu for pregnancy and childbirth, sports injuries and structural corrections, which I believe now gives me a professional edge. I have two wonderful, calm children and I really believe that shiatsu has been  a huge support to my family. I am more aware of my health, my diet, my lifestyle, and my body. I am not saying that I have become a saint, but I am more aware, and in many ways health is awareness of oneself, both emotionally and physically.’
