Michael tells us about his Access course in art and design, and how it has changed his life…

‘I chose this course because I wanted something that was engaging and challenging and would help me get to university. Working Men’s College was the ideal institution to study at because it focuses on education but has friendly policies that ensure everyone fits in. It also embraces culture and diversity. Every day on the course brought different joys, and the tutors were always available when I needed their help.
Prior to starting this course, I had been to two colleges already so my mentality was college courses are just boring with loads of work, but this access course was just very practical. Every day I learnt something new so I was never bored.

My life will never been the same after completing this course; I am now an independent student who’s matured academically and socially. The course has opened a lot of doors to a promising career. I have progressed to the one of the top 10 universities in the country (BA Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University), I am an up-and-coming young artist, and have educational and social skills which I am using at university to my advantage. I would strongly recommend this course to any students who wish to do an art course which will prepare and build up a solid foundation and background in art.’
