Hotcourses Community and My Profile

How do I join the Hotcourses Community?

Joining the community is pretty simple.

  1. First off register with Hotcourses.com. You can register here.
  2. When you register you will be sent an email confirming your details and asking you to verify your email address.
  3. If you verify your email address you will be a fully-fledged member of the Hotcourses community.

You'll immediately be taken to your profile where you can start adding some information about yourself, such as your interests, courses you would like to go on. This information is useful as it will enable you to get in touch with others that have similar interests, or allow them to get in touch with you. Once you've registered and your email address has been verified you can write reviews of courses and colleges or form groups covering your interests and invite other members to join.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free. Simply register, validate your email address and you can start filling in some of your profile, email like-minded learners and join groups of other Hotcourses members.

How do I change my personal information?

Simply log on to Hotcourses and you will be taken to your profile page. This is where all your details are shown. Click on any of the 'Edit' links on this page and you will be taken to the 'Edit My Profile' section. At the top of this page you can click on any of the sections of your profile you wish to edit.

I made a mistake, I don't want to be part of the community!

No problem. Simply log on to your profile, go to 'Account Settings' and check the box 'Hibernate my profile'. Your profile will be removed from the community search and you will no longer be visible on Hotcourses. Any reviews you have written will be still be live but will no longer have your details under them.

You will still be able to log in and update your status if you want to come back later and you can still email colleges and request prospectuses, even if you are not a member of the Hotcourses community.

I just want to email a college, do I have to join the community?

You don't have to join the Hotcourses community to email a college or request a prospectus. If you email a college then you will need to register but simply don't verify your email address when you receive the registration email. You will still be a fully paid-up registered user on Hotcourses, but you won't have a profile, or be able to write reviews, join groups and all the other stuff.

I didn't receive my registration email

If you didn't receive your registration email then check the junk / spam mail folder in your email - it's possible that it may have been redirected there.

I can't upload my photo

Please check that your image is a .jpg or a .gif - we don't support any other file formats. If you are still having problems, then check the size of the image, we don't allow images bigger than 100k.

Some of my messages have disappeared, why's that?

We do not store messages for longer than 3 months so if it's an old message, then it's likely it's been removed from the system. However, also check that they are not in your deleted items folder - it's possible that you deleted them by mistake.

How do I block a user?

If you no longer wish to receive messages from a user, then go to their profile and click 'Block user' on the left hand side of the page. You will no longer receive communications from the user.

Where do I report inappropriate comments or content?

If you see some content that you find offensive or inappropriate then please email support@hotcourses.com with details of the page you were on.

Where do I report spamming?

If you are receiving unwarranted or unwelcome messages then the simplest thing you can do is block the user. However, if this is the case, we'd like to hear about it. Please email us at support@hotcourses.com.

Where do I set my information to private?

If you don't wish anyone to see your profile at all, then it is best to hibernate your profile. When you hibernate your profile, you can still use other Hotcourses services, but it means that you will not be visible on the community search and users will not be able to view any of your details. If this is what you want to do, then go to the FAQ above 'I made a mistake, I don't want to be part of the community!'.

If however you would like to make certain details completely private, or available only to your friends, then log on to your profile and change the settings in the drop down next to the relevant question. If you change the setting to 'Private' then no one but you can see this information. If you change the setting to 'Friends only' then only you and your friends will see this information.

How do I report an error?

If you see something that isn't working, or have any suggestion on areas you think could work better, then let us know at support@hotcourses.com.

  2. Alternatively, click on write a review and find the appropriate college and course by typing in keywords and using the auto-complete options.
  3. You do not have to review a course if you don't want to, you can just review the course provider - school, college or uni.
  4. Fill in the rest of the "Write a review" form.
  5. Click on the "Preview Your Review" button at the bottom of the page.

  8. You'll receive an email confirming your successful registration - click on the "Verify email" link to confirm your email address.
  9. That's it, your review will be sent live shortly!

Rating your course/college

After you have written a review, you will be able to "rate" the course or college from a selection of radio buttons from "excellent to poor". This rating will be displayed graphically as circles next to each review.

What's the difference between a course review and a college review?

You don't have to review a specific course if you don't want to. If you leave it blank then it's called a college review. However, you can mention details about the course(s) you've taken at that college.

Can I submit a review for a college I can't find on the site?

Unfortunately not, however if you find a college or course that isn't on the site, let us know and we'll put it up there as soon as we can.

I can find the college but the course I went on is not there - can I still write a review?

Yes, you can. Simply write a review of the college and leave the course title blank. We still want to hear from learners even if the course isn't currently running.

When will my review be posted?

Your review will be posted live when you have registered and verified your email. Please read our Terms and Conditions for more information on how we post reviews.

Will my review be edited?

No. The comments on the site are those of our users and are unbiased and unaltered. We do of course retain the right take down abusive or offensive material.

Can I write more than one review about the same college?

You can write more than one course review about the same college if you are reviewing different courses, but you cannot write two college reviews about the same college.

Do I need be registered / join the community to write a review?

You will need to be register in the process of writing a review and will need to reply to the registration email to validate your email address. However, you do not need to be part of the Hotcourses community for your review to go live.

Someone at the college contacted me. Did you give them my details?

No. It is against our policy to share any details of reviewers other than they have specified to show against the review. Reviewers stay anonymous unless they choose to post their e-mail address/contact info on their review. You need to opt into this when you write the review.

For more information, view our privacy policy.

How long do my reviews stay on the site for?

We do not remove reviews based on the length of time they've been there.

Can I comment on other people's reviews?

Yes, we welcome this. If you want to comment on someone else's review, or if you are a course provider and you disagree on what someone has written, then click the "Reply to this review" and you will be taken to a screen that allows you to submit your comment.

Still have questions about reviews?

Please email support@hotcourses.com with your question.

More information about funding

I live overseas and want to study in the UK can you help with funding?
We do not offer funding for overseas students looking to study in the UK. Please contact the Colleges/Universities directly regarding opportunities for funding. You can search for the funding that is available from universities and colleges, charitable institutions and companies by going to www.studentmoney.org and searching for funding. From there you can contact organisations directly.

I can't find any funding available for the course I want to study
If the funding details don't appear on our website it's because the institution hasn't listed them with us. That may be for a variety of reasons, including that they simply don't have bursaries and scholarships in that particular area. We suggest that you contact the institutions themselves for further advice - all details are listed on our website at www.studentmoney.org.
