Overview
Ruskin College is an independent college based in Oxford that specialises in providing educational opportunities for adults with few or no formal educational qualifications. The College aims to change the lives of those who need a second chance in education. Ruskin welcomes students who not only want to develop themselves but also want to put something back into society.
The average age of students at the College is 35, with an age range from 22 to 74. In recent years the numbers of women and ethnic minority students in the College have risen significantly. Over fifty per cent of students were without work before they attended Ruskin.
What's on Offer
Founded in the year 1899, Ruskin College's aim was to provide university-standard education for working class people so that they could act more effectively on behalf of working-class communities and organisations - trade unions, political parties, co-operative societies, working men's institutes, etc. The College’s founders understood that education is power. Ruskin remains deeply committed to the belief that education can and does transform individual lives and societies.
A large number of Ruskin students have progressed to higher education institutions, including many of the most famous universities. Ruskin students have frequently gone on to work in education, in social work and social care, in the media, in trade unions, in management and in politics.
