About Nottingham Trent University
The School Of Computing & Informatics
Our taught postgraduate courses build on the research expertise of the academic staff, and opportunities for study exist in subjects as diverse as intelligent computer systems, simulations and modelling, virtual reality, applied mathematics and optoelectronics. The wide range of Masters (MSc) courses offered by the School includes specialist courses designed for computing graduates and other courses designed to enhance the knowledge gained from study of a range of other disciplines. All of our MSc courses include a major project which enables students to explore their chosen specialism in depth, while gaining practical skills in project management and communication.
The School offers MRes (Master of Research) qualifications across a range of specialist areas including computer science and electronic systems, gained by combining a series of taught modules with a substantial research project. The content and mode of delivery of the MRes courses can be tailored to suit individuals’ or employers’ needs.

Our courses are taught by highly experienced staff members, many of whom are involved in cutting-edge research that ensures that their teaching remains at the forefront of their field.
Facilities
As a postgraduate student in the School of Computing and Informatics, you will have use of modern facilities in our brand new £8 million purpose designed building. We have invested heavily in laboratory equipment and computing facilities, and everything you need from a one-stop-shop for student enquiries to high specification teaching and tutorial rooms.
A large area designed specifically for the School’s postgraduate students includes computer labs, teaching rooms and an open-plan social area.
In addition, the School has a dedicated research facility for specialist work in the area of imaging and display, housing a class 100 clean room, x-ray security and analysis system, and a suite of display characterisation rooms.
Entry Requirements and application procedures
A UK honours desgree (or equivalent) in the following areas: computing, technology, engineering, science or mathematics - Please call our recruitment office for specific requirements for each course.
Applciants with relevant employment experience, other degree subjects or relvant qualifications will also be considered.
IELTS 6.5 required by applicants whose first language is not English.

Dr Wayne Cranton
Team Leader of ICT team and Head of Displays Research Group
PhD Electrical Engineering, BSc Physics
As well teaching on our Postgraduate courses Dr Wayne Cranton is an Undergraduate Academic Team Leader for the Information and Communications Technology team in the School of Computing and Informatics.
Wayne has been involved in a variety of research projects while with the School of Computing and Informatics at Nottingham Trent University and currently heads the Displays Research Group. This group undertakes numerous funded and groundbreaking projects; recent research areas include material and device engineering of thin film materials for display and development of virtual environments.
Some of the current and research is being carried out in collaboration with or funded by the following: Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Department of Trade and Industry, Warwick University, South Bank University and Lite Array Inc/Viewpoint Flat Panel Displays Inc.
Wayne is also frequently invited to speak extensively on his areas of expertise at workshops, conferences and society meetings, keeping the industry up to date to recent developments in his field.
