Excellent course
by Daniel - April 2014

This course is really interesting. The computational centre of Swansea University is a fantastic place to study a course in computational mechanics, the engineering department is really orientated towards this field and therefore all the academic staff are well known researchers in the field. There is not a better place in UK for this kind of education. The course gives you an important background in differents topics within computational mechanics, a fundamental field in modern engineering. Modules are mainly divided between fluids and solids, and mix very well the understanding of the physics with the mathematical models. The assignments are focused in programming numerical techniques with MATLAB in order to solve problems which are modelled by a differential equation. Therefore, here they do not teach how to model problems with comercial finite element software such as Ansys or Abaqus, you will be learning how these software work, which gives you a deeper insight essential to deal with very complex problems. We can say that the course is a perfect starting point for doing a PhD in the field, in Swansea or other european university, as the master is highly reputed.

I would like to compliment the Welsh department (Academi Hywel Teifi) at Swansea University for their continued support. Despite the fact that there are only a handful of Welsh lecturers and the deparment is quite small in comparison to other subject disciplines, this makes for an excellent and familiar learning environment. The time given to me by the lecturers here, both inside and outside of lectures, definitely contributed to me gaining a 2.1 in my BA Cymraeg/Welsh degree.
