Hard Hard Hard
by Alex - August 2014

The course isnt hard in terms of the topics covered and the mathematics. What makes this course hard is the incredibly poor notes and the lecturers. The lecturers range from the uninterested to uninformed to overzealous to lazy. As each lecturer writes a mini textbook for each module to give to the students after the lectures, the notes are almost systematically littered with errors, these are mathematical and grammatical. Quite a few of the lecturers are foreign and their english is poor. Considering the £12.5K cost to take the course it is an utter waste of money. Where the course really falls down is in the assignments for each module; due to the nature of the reports lots of assumptions have to be made by the students when they are trying to create a DNO's transformer fleet maintenance policy, for example. It is not clear however about which assumptions can be made, if yours do not match up with the lecturers then a low mark can be expected. The only plus for the course is that on paper it looks really good because the lecturers are professionals from industry and some of them have big names in their areas.
