This course will enable students to acquire a comprehensive training in counselling psychology, which confers eligibility to apply for HPC registration as a Counselling Psychologist and Chartered membership of the British Psychological Society; enable students to work as competent, reflective, and ethically sound counselling psychologists who can provide high quality professional services through the skillful and creative application of a broad range of psychological knowledge and extensive, self-reflective practical experience and enable students to create new knowledge and understanding in research and practice which will contribute to the development of the profession of Counselling Psychology.
Year 1: supervised counselling psychology practice 1; personal development - experiential group; relational theory and practice 1; foundations of professional and reflective practice; personal development - personal therapy; research in counselling psychology; quantitative data collection and analysis; qualitative data collection and analysis. Year 2: assessment, diagnosis and clinical presentations; personal development - personal therapy; relational theory and practice 2; supervised counselling psychology practice 2; doctoral research project in counselling psychology [over years 2 & 3]. Year 3: cognitive behaviour therapy: theory and skills; supervised counselling psychology practice 3; personal development - personal therapy; extended client study/advanced case seminar; doctoral research project in counselling psychology [over years 2 & 3].
