Putney School of Art and Design welcomes students of all ages, backgrounds and experience. Our courses are tailored for busy working and parenting lives, with options for morning, afternoon, evening and weekend classes. Our reputation for offering a grounding in technique as a starting point for creativity, means that students are equipped with a solid foundation from which they can take-off in their chosen direction, whether it be for their own pleasure, higher education or employment.
Digital Photography and Photoshop level 1
Learn to take better photographs using your digital camera and improve and edit them using adobe photoshop.
Introduction to Oil Painting
Explore the properties of oil paint, methods of application and colour mixing to establish a platform for future painting and increase confidence.
Introduction to Drawing
Learn the basic principles of observational drawing, beginning with simple shapes and proportion through to conveying volume and space, form and light.
Ideal for students who are new to garden design and who have a small to medium sized garden they wish to transform.
Our seven art studios include a large printroom for etching and silkscreen, a lithography studio, a superb Victorian Life and Portrait studio, a ceramics studio with separate glaze room, kiln rooms and external gas kiln; plus studios for painting, digital design, watercolour and illustration. There is a large Art library with free wifi and internet access, a café and roof terrace, and a fully stocked art materials shop. All our facilities are fully accessible.

Location and transport
The school is very close to tube and rail stations and bus stops.
By tube - nearest underground station is East Putney on District line, three minutes walk away.
By bus - these routes pass close to the school - 37, 39, 220, 270 and 337
By rail - three minutes from Putney Station with services every seven minutes from Waterloo.
By bicycle- there is bicycle parking available. There’s also a Santander Cycle Hire docking station immediately outside the School entrance on Oxford Road.
By car- street parking close to the School is expensive and difficult to find, but is free after 6.30pm
How to enrol
You can enrol on all courses for adults if you are 19 years or older. We also run courses especially for younger students and family learning courses for parent and child. We have no nationality restrictions on any of our courses, though a good understanding of English is essential on most courses.
