The capital’s service and leisure industries are a driving force behind regeneration on our high streets. Everywhere you look there are new health and fitness centres, gyms, hair and beauty salons, restaurants, bistros and bars.
That is why we have built our very own SW4 Learning Street at the Clapham Centre. This brand new and unique set of facilities includes smart shops and micro-businesses, a restaurant and professional training kitchens, a hair and beauty therapy salon and spa They aim to simulate the real service and retail experience where students get hands-on experience in running their own business and enterprise and deal with real clients and the general public.
If you are adventurous and enjoy physical activity, we have developed a new provision for uniformed public services and sports and fitness. In uniformed public services you will be trained to develop your fitness and expertise, to give you that competitive edge when entering into a services career. Recently we have seen successful learners from our football academy signed for QPR and West Ham Utd football clubs with many others progressing to careers in personal training, sports coaching and into higher education to study sports science and leisure related subjects.
The course was interesting in terms of the material although the tutor did not explain things very well so most of the class were stuck and struggled for many weeks with the coursework and criteria. There were clashes in the class and lots of tension and teacher has a bit of a poor attitude when it comes to students on the whole and is totally unattached and only emotional about the lessons. Doesn't have any empathy and I doubt very much she is trained to be a counsellor. Having said that, you will gain greater self awareness doing the course, and if you can handle the classroom tension then you will pass in the end. But it won't be by the book the right way, it will be her way. I have done other courses at this college and she's the only teacher like this and other students find it the same. I spent a lot of time making excuses for her poor attitude to begin with but in the end I realised I was just not helping anyone especially her by doing so. Hopefully one day she ll wake up to herself. Do go ahead and take the course if you want but just be pre warned and challenge her instead of treating her too kindly and with respect as otherwise she ll just carry on as she is doing.
Its a full on course full of all the knowledge on human anatomy that stands you in good stead for your 1st year of uni. The tutors work you hard but are amazingly supportive, they teach and give you an insight into all you need to make the transition to university student I will qualify as a midwife in sept 2015, and i wouldn't be where i am today if it wasn't for the support of the amazing staff at Lambeth college
