Sports coaches work with people with a wide range of
sporting ability, from absolute beginners to top
international professionals, in both individual and team
Most coaches are volunteers, and coach alongside another full-time job. Only a few coach full- time.
Coaches organise and run structured training sessions to enable people to learn the skills to participate in their chosen sport safely and to their full potential. For team sports, they also need to develop players into an effective team.
Coaches/instructors usually work evenings and
weekends, when most people participate in recreation.
Those who coach/instruct sport have to be present at
training sessions and competitions, resulting in long
working hours. Travel may be involved.
The work environment varies according to what type of sport or activity they coach/instruct. Some coaches spend most of their time outside working in all weathers.
